"TouchTable is an application developed for the iPhone Operating System
that allows students to easily keep track of their education timetable.
I wanted to create a simple solution to a common problem amongst
students. I felt strongly that developing an application for students whilst I
was a student was very important, as I took in to account the problems that
I had, and ideas I knew potential users would want to be included.
The original specification was developed after extensive consideration of
feedback for existing timetabling applications on the App Store. This led to
an application designed specifically to address the needs and desires of the
target user group.
TouchTable makes full use of the iPhone and iPod Touch hardware, taking
advantage of both portrait and landscape views as well as the touch interface
in order to provide an intuitive and feature-rich user experience.
The application conforms to the established HCI conventions of the
iPhone. Gestures such as 'shake to undo' and 'swipe to delete' ensure that
the application behaves in a way that any user would expect. When in portrait
mode, the application displays a list of events, whilst landscape orientation
switches the display to a table view giving a clearer representation of the
weeks schedule. The application also allows the user to add multiple notes
to each event, easily switch between Week A and Week B events and email
a PNG copy of the timetable.
TouchTable has been approved by Apple and has sold over 150 units on
the international App Store in just over a month, despite it being the backend
of the educational term. It will also be the foundation of a new business
start up which has already been awarded support from the EMIN Enterprise
Inc. Scheme, selling branded adaptations of the applications to institutions
across the UK.
In addition to the TouchTable for the iPhone, a new hybrid version has
been developed that works on both the iPhone and iPad, capturing the new
and rapidly growing iPad market and utilising the devices advanced hardware
improvements. TouchTable Pro is an intelligent application that runs the
correct version of TouchTable on its respective device.
Sales through the App Store so far in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia,
Europe and Asia, as well as the glowing feedback received from some of
those users, stand as testament to the fact that TouchTable has solved
a common timetabling problem for students worldwide in a creative and
intuitive manner."
