Real Religion (Interfaith Marriage)
"I have produced a nineteen minute documentary about interfaith marriage; a reporter goes on a journey to investigate some of the issues with interfaith marriage and why some religions do not accept it but others support it. It also looks at why it is important to think about your faith before going into any marriage, because it can sometimes affect the marriage. This documentary is narrated from the viewpoint of three religions, being the Christian, Judaism and Islamic faiths.
The idea for this documentary came from a personal experience which invoked my curiosity to explore and learn about interfaith marriage. During the research stages I began to realise that, although marriage is an issue, people do not tend to talk about it as they feel it is too sensitive or controversial, especially where religion is involved. However, I wanted to take this challenge upon myself to search and learn about interfaith marriage.
This is because personally I know some people that are in situations like this; some had to put an end to their relationship or marriage but others refused to let their religious differences separate them. I think this documentary is a good way to inform people who are thinking of going into such marriages or relationships.
My aim was to conclude this documentary by looking at divorce and whether statistics show that interfaith marriages are some of the reasons for divorce. I also wanted to explore this subject area from the viewpoint of other religions, so for further work these are the areas where I would like to develop my idea. I have always wanted to make a short film based on this idea, narrating the story from the point of view of a young man or woman in a relationship with someone from a different faith. They decide to get married but they have to choose between their religion and love."
