Leicester After Dark
"This project is a joint effort with the Leicester Constabularys Violence
and Disorder Team, with the aim of creating a video showing an accurate
representation of Leicester City Centre on a Friday and Saturday night, for
both training and promotional purposes. The video the team was currently
using was dated in various different ways; both the look and quality of the
video were substandard and the way the video showed the city centre
being policed were no longer reflective of current operations.
The Team wanted the new video to be truthful and to show the city centre
exactly as it is. Not just to show the bad aspects of the city centre at night
such as people being disorderly, fighting and being arrested but also people
out and about having a good time and not causing any trouble. They wanted
the video to show how the city centre changes over an evening, from people
out shopping, to those going to restaurants, people starting to drink, travelling
onto clubs and finally at the end of the evening people leaving the city centre
to journey home.
The Violence and Disorder Team is a specialist unit working out of Mansfield
House in the city centre. They mainly deal with alcohol related disorders
on the city's streets (this includes issues related to licensing). The task of
dealing with individuals coming from outside of the police force to visit/work
on the city streets at night also falls to them whether this is Street Pastors, or
a film crew (filming for the likes of programmes such as "City Cops").
The video was made with only a one man crew. Filming took place over
several evenings and all footage was shot using a Sony A1-E camera.
Editing was conducted using Final Cut Pro and sound editing with Pro-Tools."
